The Challenge of Reactivation 2022

Post-pandemic reactivation is emerging as a key challenge in the tourism, business, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sectors. Before the health emergency, our country stood out in Latin America for its potential to host fairs and events, ranking as the third country with the most events and conventions. According to Procolombia, this segment accounted for 23% of the economic contribution from tourism in Colombia and generated nearly 4 million hotel room nights annually.

From the outset, 2022 was shaping up to be a year of challenges, reactivation, and implementation of lessons learned in previous years. The Valle del Pacífico Events Center remained at the forefront of strict biosafety protocols and made its technological capabilities available to clients for hosting hybrid events, which innovated and contributed to the exchange of knowledge and business, promoting safe reactivation.

Procolombia highlights that various bureaus and territorial entities have developed campaigns to avoid the cancellation of events in the country, ensuring that 74% of the 514 events scheduled for 2020 were maintained.

In March, following active vaccination, increased capacity allowances, and biosafety protocols, the Valle del Pacífico Events Center hosted eight events of various types, opening its doors to hundreds of attendees.

Among the events held were concerts by national and international artists, corporate events, and significant events for the nation such as La Macrorrueda 90, the country’s most important commercial internationalization space, and the annual Cotelco members assembly, which included an academic agenda with international and national guests who shared topics of interest for the hotel and tourism sector in the country. In this way, the venue opened its doors to more than 9,000 people in March.

For the team behind these historic events, reactivation means great opportunities for both the community and the country. For Armando Abello, Food and Beverage Coordinator, seeing the Events Center back in action represents joy and a challenge, yet he feels prepared to host many more events throughout the year with the excellence that characterizes the venue’s team. This is the general sentiment of a group of people who continue to grow and aim to contribute to the industry’s development.

The challenge continues, and the Valle del Pacífico Events Center is committed to being a benchmark of excellence in the Pacific region, seeking the economic, social, cultural, and environmental development of the area through the excellent operation of major events.
